Passion Pit – Manners
This one is a little late, but I felt it was a significant enough release that I at least wanted to put a few words down and maybe get a few more people to hear it.

To put it simply, Manners is fantastic. Front to back. Passion Pit was originally started as a gift of songs to frontman Michael Angelakos’ ex-girlfriend. The collection gained popularity at the University he attended and was then released soon after as an EP. Now with a sound that has matured ten-fold since that raw start, there is now a full band and a developed sound. To sum it up best, this is a synth-rock extravaganza that is full of track after track of melodic catchy electronic indulgence. A pulsing bass line laces through every songs’ diverse dancing synthesizers.
Listen to Little Secrets here.
Whether channeling late night mischief (The Reeling), 8-bit soundscapes (Little Secrets) or Joy Division meets M83 melancholy (Eyes as Candles), all are executed very well. One downfall may be getting past the falsetto and chorus of falsettos as the method of vocal delivery on most tracks, but it’s a minor complaint in regards to a major achievement. This is a great release from band making big steps in the right direction.
