The Ten (but better) Pt. 1

Posted in music by arcanedufresne on January 5, 2009

The long awaited top ten albums of 2008. I broke it up into hip-hop and then everything else. I almost made another subcategory for mixtapes but I didn’t want to dig through the millions. Today is the hip-hop list and tommorrow the second half will follow. So here it is…

Best Hip-Hop of 2008
10] The Knux – Remind Me in Three Days

Two twin brothers from New Orleans and one of them goes by the name of Crispy. Fresh take for sure.

9] Q-Tip – The Renaissance

Tip has still got it and it feels like he’s back in Tribe with his new solo drop.

8] Wale – The Mixtape About Nothing

First, Wale is the dopest out of the DMV. Second, any play on Seinfeld is absolutely gold.

7] Jake One – White Van Music

A collabo effort from an all-star list of emcees and a dope Seattle producer.

6] Charles Hamilton – The Hamiltonization Process

Not just one single album, but his entire “Process” in which he dropped a new mixtape every two weeks and sampled a bunch of theme music from different levels of Sonic.

5] Kanye West – 808s & Heartbreaks

Yeezy is probably getting heat for this record, but I think it’s genius from front to back. Enough said.

4] Ludacris – Theater of the Mind

Luda never gets the credit he deserves, but the tracks on this are fire with guest spots from the hip-hop elite (i.e., Jay-Z, Nas, The Game, Common)

3] The Cool Kids – The Bake Sale EP

Retro kids from the Windy City never gets old, which is good because this shit is straight out of yesterday.

2] Lil Wayne – Tha Carter III

Yeah…so what, I know it’s on everybody else’s top albums of the year list, but that’s because it’s that good.

1] Kid Cudi – A Kid Named Cudi Mixtape

The Kid is on another level. This tape has been played the absolute most times in any of my music players in 2008 and he is poised to pounce in ’09.

…stay tuned for the finish.
