These days, even The Chef himself finds it hard to fight the heat. The dog days are upon us and this heatwave is national, right Ty?

So I met Atiba Jefferson and Mos Def Friday night. That was pretty slick.

Printed Liberty

Posted in art, philly by arcanedufresne on March 26, 2010
Heads of State have done a set of limited edition, screen-printed travel posters and they are pretty striking. They are a simple representation of the major cities they portray and I am thinking about showing some Philly pride and making a purchase.

Four Walls

Posted in art, home, philly by arcanedufresne on March 9, 2010

As previously noted, I have salivated over the artwork of James Jean in prior posts. With my impending move from my current residence to another Conshy hideout, I have found myself desiring to acquire some new art to adorn my walls. I never ceased to be amazed by his intricate detailing and starkly contrasting colors. Alas, I will most likely wait until I find a more permanent locale, I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces from James Jean. Oh, and Process Recess Vol. 3 is absolutely fantastic, as usual thanks Anne-Marie.

Show Circuit

Posted in music, philly by arcanedufresne on March 1, 2010

There are so many good shows coming up over the course of the next few months, it’s almost sad that for some of them I have to “force” myself to go. But then when I think about how great most of them will be, it’s a no-brainer. Last night, Scott and I saw None More Black at a hole in the wall known as The Barbary. I’ve never been a huge NMB fan, mainly because I never really got into them or gave them a chance but they put on a great show and being partially Philly native, the masses went wild. We are heading back to the venue tonight to see Surfer Blood, play Freddy Kreuger pinball and drink $2 PBR. Saturday I’m heading to see Justin Townes Earle and Sunday is P.O.S. Anyone in the area who is interested in coming out for any of the aforementioned shows, let me know and let’s get down.

No Alibi

For the third year in a row, Philadelphia was named the nation’s ugliest city. I promise you, the people are ugly on the inside, too. Full of spite, malice and bitterness.

Love Letter

Posted in art, philly by arcanedufresne on August 25, 2009

Steve Powers, AKA ESPO, along with a sizeable amount of collaborators have started the “Love Letter” art project in Philly which will end up encompassing 50 different walls. I knew this was in the works for a bit now, but finally seeing photos of some of the finished products is really cool and makes me want to go on a mission to find them all when the process is complete.

Two “cougars” just flirted with me as I came out of the beer distributor. It must have been the case of PBR I was carrying that lured them in.

I’m optimistic about the extended weekend and holiday. Things on tap include grilling, wiffleball, pool partying, and surely some brews. Thanks America for being born.
